30th March 2012
O2 Academy Brixton, London

The irony that Destroy Rebuild Until God Shows (D.R.U.G.S.) come out on stage at Brixton Academy to Skrillex – or something in that vein, isn’t it tricky to distinguish dubstep? – isn’t lost on this crowd, but then, this is the band who released a faux sex tape to promote a new song. Mind, D.R.U.G.S. are after all a ‘supergroup’ (Chiodos, From First To Last, Matchbook Romance, Four Letter Lie and Undetermined to boot) so any frame of reference could be deemed ironic.

Supporting Black Veil Brides on their mammoth UK tour isn’t the most natural booking for the post-hardcore outfit, but in tonight’s cavernous venue, D.R.U.G.S. come out to a rapturous response from the crowd. Each band member’s respective experience shines through as they blast their way through a set that includes fan favourites like ‘The Only Thing You Talk About Is Yourself’ and ‘Sex Life’. Frontman Craig Owens is a whirl of energy, throwing himself around to and fro. He has the crowd wrapped around his little finger, commanding them to open up huge pits and fearsome walls of death at the drop of a hat.

There’s been whispers of uncertainty about D.R.U.G.S.’ future, but if tonight’s performance is anything to go by, they have a strong live reputation and even stronger fanbase to fall back on. In fact, you may go so far to call them ‘addicts’. Arf.
