“I feel really terrible about letting down the fans,” says Deryck. “I injured my back about eight months ago and the doctors are saying that I could be in a wheelchair. So, as much as I wanted to be able to do it, I’ve got to look at reality, and for the first time I’ve got to listen to somebody else and not just myself. We’re all really upset about this; we’ve had such a great relationship with our UK fans. We were really looking forward to thistour.”
But of course, the show(s) must go on, and this morning Kerrang! announced that The Blackout were set to replace them on the tour with the rest of the previously announced bands New Found Glory, letlive and While She Sleeps.
“We’re delighted to step in for Sum 41 at the last minute!” says The Blackout’s co-vocalist Sean Smith. “We’ve played the tour once before [in 2010] and we know what a total laugh it is. But hopefully Sum 41 fans won’t try and murder us! This should be a really, really great tour and we’re all really excited to watch the other bands every night.”
Tickets are still on sale for the tour via all the usual outlets, the full listing of which can be found here.
Slam Dunk 2012 has been announced for both 26th May in Leeds University and 27th May at the Hatfield Campus of Herts University. Promoter Ben Ray who started this in 2001 has seen the festival grow over the years; “Again this year it’s been hard work, but I’m extremely happy with how the lineup is shaping up so far. Here are just 10 bands out of over 50 artists, so I’m confident the festival can again deliver a lineup of bands that everyone will agree is amazing value. I also thought it was extra important this year to demonstrate the value so tickets have been frozen at 2011 prices!”
